We are delighted to have the opportunity to preserve some of the original Functionalist furniture from the Společenský dům Hotel in Zlín, designed by architects Miroslav Lorenc and Vladimír Karfík. The hotel was commissioned by Tomáš Baťa as part of the extraordinary development of Zlín in the 1930s.
The furniture was rescued in the 1980s, when the hotel, renamed Hotel Moskva in 1948, underwent reconstruction and much of its original interior furnishings were being removed.
We have taken the liberty of using a photograph from the source referenced below, which provides an excellent overview of the hotel’s history. The photograph shows two surviving pieces of the original furniture: a bedside table and a dressing table.
