Fotograf Josef Sudek (1896–1976) od konce dvacátých do začátku padesátých let 20. století spolupracoval s avantgardními architekty a majiteli moderních staveb. Vzniklo tak několik stovek snímků, kterým dosud nebyla věnována detailnější odborná pozornost.
Patří mezi ně například fotografie Barrandovských teras v Praze, elektrárny ESSO v Kolíně, moderních staveb v Hradci Králové a řady dalších budov, jež se výrazně zapsaly do dějin české architektury. Kniha přibližuje spolupráci fotografa a architekta a pokouší se odpovědět na otázku, zda a jakým způsobem architekti ovlivňovali fotografování svých staveb. Soustředí se rovněž na spojnice mezi Sudkovou volnou a zakázkovou tvorbou a roli, kterou fotografie hrála v popularizaci meziválečné architektury mezi širokou veřejností.

From the late 1920s to the early 1950s, photographer Josef Sudek (1896–1976) collaborated with avant-garde architects and owners of modern buildings. This resulted in several hundred images that have not yet been given detailed professional attention.
These include, for example, photographs of the Barrandov Terraces in Prague, the ESSO power plant in Cologne, modern buildings in Hradec Králové and many other buildings that have made a significant contribution to the history of Czech architecture. The book presents the collaboration between the photographer and the architect and attempts to answer the question of whether and how architects influenced the photography of their buildings. It also focuses on the connections between Sudek's free and commissioned work and the role that photography played in popularizing interwar architecture among the general public.

The book Czech Photography of the 20th Century presents the main tendencies, personalities and works of Czech photography of the entire past century on such a large scale for the first time. It contains 517 reproductions, which include both the most important photographs and photomontages that have been seen many times, as well as works that have been long forgotten or have never been published. It is arranged in seventeen chapters and is complemented by a comprehensive chronology of the most important events in Czech photography of the 20th century.
The book received 1st prize for the best photography book from Central and Eastern Europe from 2009-2010 at the 20th International Month of Photography Festival in Bratislava.
